Is Puerto Rico the 51st State of the U.S?

Image result for pr part of usAlthough Puerto Rico has been considered to be the 51st state, it is a commonwealth of the United States. After the Spanish-American war, Puerto Rico became property of the U.S. According to Wikipedia, in 2012 54% of the population expressed dissatisfaction with the current political relationship. In another question, 61% supported statehood. On January 4, 2017, Puerto Rico's representative to Congress pushed a bill that would make P.R a state by 2025. Is it true? We have to see to find out. June 11, 2017, another vote was held and 97.7% of the population supported statehood.

The land was originally called San Juan Bautista, but because of the gold river, it became known as Puerto Rico. In English, Puerto Rico means Rich Port. The capital of Puerto Rico is San Juan. Puerto Rico became a territory of the United States in 1898 after being a colony of Spain. It has been largely self-governing. It has a large influence celebrating the Taino, Hispaniola, and African roots. Puerto Rico is filled with approximately 3.4 million people. Culture flourishes in the food, celebrations, and ways of life.

I was born int he U.S, but I have Puerto Rican parents. I am considered a NewYorican. I do poetry and write stories expressing my roots. I also have traveled many times to Puerto Rico and love it.
