San Juan

   Brief History  San Juan is Puerto Rico's capital. It was found in 1521 by Juna Ponce De Leon. It is known as the oldest city under U.S control. San Juan is known as La Ciudad Amurallada since it has one of the best natural harbors. San Juan is located in the northern coastal plains. San Juan is known for it's three distinct areas: Old San Juan, the Beach and Resort Area, and other communities within it. Some important communities are Santurce, Rio Piedras, Hato Rey, Puerta de Tierra.
     San Juan is the largest processing center of the island. The petroleum area is known for its facilities for petroleum and sugar refining, cement, metal products, clothing, tobacco. Many U.S banks and corporations are involved in San Juan, that's why it is the busiest port in the Caribbean. It is also the second largest city port. New York City being the first.

Flag   March 8, 1948, was when San Juan's flag was adopted. It depicts the coats of arms of the city on a white field.


Climate  San Juan has an average temperature of 79.9 F. The warmest month is June. The coolest month is February. November is the wettest average month.

Famous Parks   Parque de las Palomas- It is known a government office with an attractive art gallery. It is the perfect place for a family to spend their day. In this spot, the people are able to view the harbor, mountains, and city. There are many local pigeons.

Luis Munoz Rivera Park- It has a view of the ocean and many large trees.

Fort  San Juna is also known for its famous port, El Morro, which was named in honor of King Phillip II. It is recognized for its view of the San Juan Bay. It is the largest fortification in the Caribbean.
